Feed My Flock is a food packaging ministry at St. Louis, and an annual event that everyone can participate in. It provides not only a way to serve others, but also fellowship time for our whole St. Louis family.
Over 700 volunteers from our parish come together one Saturday in October to package 150,000 meals for the hungry. Each package contains six nutritionally balanced servings of an easy-to-make beans and rice meal.
Every year, the meals from Feed My Flock are given to The Southern Eye Institute and Catholic Charities of West Tennessee. The Southern Eye Institute is a clinical mission in Sierra Leone. Through our donation, they’re able to feed their patients what may be the only meal they’ve had in days. Catholic Charities of West Tennessee distributes the food we package here locally through their Fig Tree and Mobile Food Pantry services.
Feed My Flock works with The Outreach Program, a national non-profit organization. Ingredients are purchased for 27 cents per meal from Outreach using the generous funds from our two second collections and private donations.
The most exciting thing about Feed My Flock is how it brings together a wide cross-section of our church community to help those in need. Parishioners of all ages package the food in an assembly-line fashion, many of our teenagers keep the tables stocked and box the packages, and our younger children make greeting cards to put in the boxes for those receiving the food. It truly is a beautiful, parish-wide effort.
